About Bryan & His Teaching Philosophy

I started piano at 15 with no musical background, no family of musicians, and no idea what I was getting myself into. What I did have was an obsession I couldn’t explain — and a refusal to let a late start define my ceiling.

Today, I perform internationally across Asia, Europe and the United States, including at the Esplanade Concert Hall in Singapore and the UdK Konzertsaal in Berlin. I am also the Artistic Director of BespokeArts Singapore and Faculty at OpusOne International Music Festival in Los Angeles. Teaching, for me, is not a side activity. It is where I put everything I’ve learned about what it actually takes to grow as a musician.

My approach is direct, structured, and deeply personal. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all teaching. I work with students from intermediate level all the way to pre-conservatory standard, and I care most about building the kind of foundation that makes everything else possible — strong technique, genuine musicality, and the mental resilience to perform under pressure.

Students often tell me they leave lessons feeling inspired and clear about what to work on next. Parents tell me their children practise differently after working with me — with more intention, not just more hours.

I work best with students who are serious about growth, curious about music beyond the syllabus, and ready to be challenged.

"Bryan is a dynamic piano teacher who strikes a great balance between setting high standards and being encouraging. He emphasizes the importance of good sound production and keeping the ‘big picture’ of a music piece. Lessons with him are interactive and exploratory, encouraging students to find their own interpretation and to be independent learners. His own journey in music is truly inspiring and motivates his students to never give up one’s dream to play the piano. I highly recommend Bryan to anyone looking for a dedicated and supportive piano teacher."

"I took lessons from Bryan in Japan. I asked him to play Chopin's posthumous nocturne, and the following three explanations were very helpful to me: ① The reason why this piece wasn't published during Chopin's lifetime ② The style and structure common to Chopin's works, such as "left hand accompaniment, right hand melody" ③ He carefully explained every measure of the harmonies that were obscured by arpeggios. These things have greatly improved my understanding of Chopin, a piece I've long found difficult (and felt like "someone else's"). Since the lesson, I've started to enjoy practicing, and I feel like my memorization and score-reading have improved in accuracy and speed. I'm absolutely confident that Brian's lessons will be beneficial to both piano players and students. Above all, I was thrilled by Brian's love for the piano and his passion and respect for the pieces. 🥰 Although he's much younger than me, he's a teacher who transcends age, nationality, language, and skill level to take me to a deeper level of piano enjoyment!"
